News Synopsis

A few days back French President, Emmanuel Macron said that Nuclear Power could fuel their fight against climate change. He announced a plan to install six new nuclear reactors. These reactors will produce energy without any carbon emissions. However, the cost of these nuclear reactors is said to be very high. Emmanuel Macron while speaking to the workers at the Green Energy factory at Belfort said: “We are now convinced, and I think that it’s scientifically established, that if we want to succeed in the climate transition, the energy sovereignty of our country, and industrial production, we have to make this choice”. Currently, 70% of the total energy of France is produced by Nuclear energy, but its current nuclear reactors because of their less shelf lives are getting outdated in the coming years. To sustain its energy production France needs to build new energy plants. Opposition on the other hand has been aggressive about Macron’s policy. They say that Nuclear Reactors are dangerous and very costly to build.
