News Synopsis

According to Russian radio station Sputnik, Russian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Dmitry Kuleba will meet on Thursday, March 10, beside a multilateral conference in Antalya, Turkey. The meeting will be trilateral and the Turkish Foreign Minister will participate in peace talks.

Russia and Ukraine have been involved in a war that Moscow calls "special operations" after Russia invaded its neighbours two weeks ago.

The news of the foreign ministers' meeting was taken with caution in light of the current state of hostilities. However, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has virtually declared that he will not participate in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) of the western military alliance, which is a major issue for the Kremlin, so there is hope that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine has said, "I have cooled down regarding this question a long time ago after we understood that NATO is not prepared to accept (Ukraine's membership)". He added: "The alliance (NATO) is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia."

Meanwhile, the USA refused to supply Air Force planes to Poland, which is a NATO member country to be passed on to Ukraine to defend itself against the Russians.
