News Synopsis

Following the order of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the leading telecom operator of India- Jio Incorporation has launched a new ‘calendar’ monthly prepaid plan. Earlier this year, in the month of January, TRAI ordered Telecom operators of the nation to launch prepaid plans with 30-day validity. Currently, most telecom companies only provide plans with a validity of 28 days and because of this consumers have to recharge their phone number 13 times a year. The telecom regulator directed the companies to provide “at least one plan voucher, one special tariff voucher, and one combo voucher” with 30-day validity, which shall be renewable on the same date every month. The plan launched by Jio will cost users Rs. 259 and it will offer 1.5GB of data per day, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day, and complimentary access to Jio apps. The validity of the plan is 1 month and it renews on the same date every month. This is also India’s first prepaid plan with 30 days validity by any telecom operator as other telecom companies such as Airtel and Vodafone Idea don’t offer any plans like this. However, they are expected to launch 30 days validity plan soon.
