FIR against Dream11 co-founders quashed by Karnataka HC

News Synopsis

In a recent judgment, FIR filed against the founders of Dream11 has been quashed by the Karnataka High Court. This FIR was registered by the Bengaluru City Police against Harsh Jain and Bhavit Seth who are the co-founders of Dream 11. They were charges of violations that have been recently repealed in Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act, 2021. Acting on the petition filed by the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) and gaming companies, Karnataka High court had struck down the amendments made in the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act, 2021.  Last year in the month of October, Online betting games were banned by the Government Of Karnataka, after the approval of Governor Of Karnataka- Thawar Chand Gehlot. The amendments of the Karnataka Police Act,1963  were passed by the Karnataka Government. Tamil Nadu government also banned online betting games. Their decision too met the same fate as Karnataka’s government. The Madras Highcourt repealed their decision citing it unconstitutional and the same happened to Kerala’s Government decision too in Kerala.
