Instant live tutor startup Filo has raised $ 23 million in a Series A round led by Anthos Capital. In addition, existing investors Better Capital has participated along with many well-known individual investors such as GSV, Sapling Capital, Gokul Rajaram, Rob Frohwein, Mate Pencz & Florian Hagenbuch, Ross Lipson.

The company will use the funds primarily for product development as it goes deeper into modelling pedagogy at scale, expanding the team, tapping into new categories and scaling the tutor base of the platform across the country.

In almost a year, Filo has grown to over 1.5 million downloads, over 350,000 monthly active users, and overwhelming student reviews. There are 24/7 live platforms in more than 15 countries, with over 40,000 teachers on the platform. This is the largest pool of teachers in the world.

Over the next 12 months, the platform will hire more than 200,000 teachers across India and will run 2 million live courses daily. In September 2021, the company raised an idea-stage pre-seed round and a $ 2 million seed round from Better Capital while operating in stealth mode.

Filo was founded by Imbesat Ahmad, Shadman Anwer and Rohit Kumar, a team of serial entrepreneurs and experienced engineers who are passionate about delivering quality educational experiences on a large scale.

Imbesat is an educator, serial entrepreneur and founder of RiSE, an accredited educational institution in Jammu and Kashmir. His alma mater is modelled on the lines of Super 30, helping thousands of underprivileged state university students at IIT and IVY League Colleges.
