News Synopsis

GivingPi, India's first and only family philanthropy network, has been launched by leading philanthropists and Dasra. According to a press release, the invite-only network will launch in August with the goal of expanding the ecosystem of family philanthropy.

GivingPi was founded with support from Aditi and Rishad Premji, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Manisha and Ashish Dhawan, Nikhil Kamath, Nisa Godrej, Rajan Navani, Rohini Nilekani, Skoll Foundation, Tara Singh Vachani, Vasvi Bharat Ram, and Vivek Jain.

GivingPi hopes to have 5,000 members by 2030 and to donate $1 billion to various social causes across the country each year. According to the statement, the network is dedicated to building a vibrant community of family givers by assisting them on their giving journey, encouraging collaboration, and growing family philanthropy. Families can be involved in any cause or approach, but they must contribute a minimum of Rs 50 lakh per year to India's development sector.

The GivingPi network will offer philanthropy-focused services such as connections to credible NGOs and trusted philanthropy advisers, peer networking, theme-based learning, and collaborative funding opportunities, all while mainstreaming the narrative of family philanthropy in India. Members of this community will share and learn from lived experiences and insights, thereby accelerating their own giving journeys and growing India's giving pie collectively.
