News Synopsis

American automobile giant- Ford Motor Company, on Friday announced that it is going to stop the production of its popular pickup truck- the Ford F-150. The reason behind to halt the production of its pickup truck is because of the global shortage of semiconductors. Ford is not the only automobile maker company affected by the shortage of semiconductors. Since the inception of the Pandemic in 2020, global chip shortage paired with supply chain disruptions has severely affected the production of the automobile industry. Ford F-150 is one of the best selling vehicle of the iconic automobile brand. A few days back Ford announced that it will continue to idle the production at some of its manufacturing plants. However Ford’s plant in Dearborn, Michigan will continue to function. Semiconductors are an important part of today’s modern vehicles. It controls major functions from engine performance to infotainment features etc. Another setback to the automobile industry came in the form of Russia’s Invasion of its neighboring country, Ukraine. Major automakers including Volkswagen, Nissan, etc have decided to shut their operations in the conflict region for the time being. Last year Ford decided to shut its operations and manufacturing facilities in India after continuously suffering losses. However, the company plans to now sell its vehicles as Completely Built Unit (CBU) after importing them in India, including the F-150 and the iconic Mustang.
