News Synopsis

India is pushing itself into sustainability among the other industrialized countries by positioning climate change as a key concern and implementing a massive project that spans the entire nation. In his speech to a gathering on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that EVs are bringing a "Silent Revolution" to India and helping the country lower its carbon footprints.

A KPMGIndia research predicts that by 2030, 5 crore EVs would be on Indian roads. The "Silent revolution" of EVs is causing a paradigm shift in the global automobile industry as it attempts to switch to an alternate, less energy-intensive options. India is encouraging investment in the switch to electric vehicles.

The burden of oil imports, rising pollution, and international commitments to combat global climate change are some of the key reasons driving India's recent measures to expedite the transition to e-mobility. EVs are a better option to combustion engine automobiles. India wants to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070.

As part of the government's initiatives to strengthen the EV ecosystem, Prime Minister Modi urged the gathering to be EV efficient and informed them about the several incentives offered to buyers of electric vehicles. The government has made a number of changes, such as streamlining the loan application procedure and providing income tax refunds. The PM said, "To boost the supply, work is also being carried out at a fast pace to introduce PLI schemes in automobile and automobile components manufacturing,"

India is expanding the use of EVs nationwide in an effort to become an EV-efficient nation. The market for such vehicles is now being driven by the two- and three-wheeler segments, but automobile manufacturers are already either releasing models or announcing plans to do so soon. According to experts, with the right incentives, the upfront purchase cost will be decreased since advances in battery technology will lower the cost of batteries.
