News Synopsis

On Wednesday, the European Union issues a warning to the customers to not use their clothes like disposable facial tissues. It also informed that it is planning to counter the use of disposable fast fashion clothing. The executive arm of the European Union also proposed new rules in this regard. These new rules call for mandatory minimum use of recycled fibers by 2030 and would also restrict the destruction of many unsold products. Additionally, they also seek to limit the release of micro-plastics and improve global labor conditions in the garment industry. Vice President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans said: "We want sustainable products to become the norm. The clothes we wear should last longer than three washes. All textiles should be long lasting, recyclable, made of recycled fibers, and free of dangerous substances. The strategy also aims to boost reuse and repair sectors and address textile waste.”
