Ethiopia in Crisis! USA Urging its Citizens to Leave ASAP

In the wake of exponentially deteriorating security conditions in Ethiopia, the US is advising any and all citizens to immediately leave the country.

A security alert published on Friday on the site of the US embassy in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa severely warned Americans to flee the country and offered cooperation in getting air travel assistance from Bole International Airport.

“Ethiopia’s security environment is gravely fluid! We urge the US citizens in Ethiopia to promptly leave the country without any delay,” the alert said.

The State Department, on Wednesday, authorized the non-essential employees who are working with the embassy, along with their families, to leave the country owing to the civil unrest, armed conflict, and possible supply shortages.

Travel to Ethiopia is marked unsafe because of the current armed conflict. Episodes of ethnic violence and civil unrest are a strong possibility, given the adverse situation. Further escalation is plausible and may cause communication blackouts, supply chain shortages, and travel disruptions.
