News Synopsis

SpaceX's Starlink was told by some governments to block Russian news sources. Elon Musk has said on Twitter that the company will not do so unless at gunpoint. The CEO also warned that the Starlink systems could be targeted in Ukraine.

He also advised people to use it with caution as it is the only non-Russian communications system that is still working in some parts of Ukraine. Before announcing that Starlink would not block Russian news outlets, Elon Musk tweeted, “SpaceX reprioritized to cyber defence & overcoming signal jamming."

Musk also said that SpaceX has activated its Starlink internet service in Ukraine after pleas from the vice prime minister and minister of digital transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov

SpaceX launched a faster version of the satellite internet service, called Starlink Premium in early February. The company claimed that the version was designed for better performance in extreme weather conditions.
