News Synopsis

Elon Musk is planning his own private airport in Texas, according to various sources. As per a local newspaper, plans for an airport east of Austin, near Bastrop, have been verified, however the exact location and timeframe are uncertain.

Musk has multiple companies in Texas, including SpaceX and the Boring Company, and transferred Tesla's headquarters from Silicon Valley to Texas in December. These operations might be serviced and developed at the airport. Musk and his firms own thousands of acres of land in central Texas, including 2,100 acres for Giga Texas, and SpaceX and the Boring Company have been collecting land in the area as well.

The airport's size is unknown, however the nearby Austin Executive Airport has 585 acres. Musk touted in a speech following the opening of Giga Texas that the site was within a 10-minute drive from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Musk is spending more time in Texas as manufacturing at his gigafactory there heats up, which he previously described as a "giant money furnace."

Last month, Austonia reported that Musk, who now flies a Gulfstream G650ER, intended to upgrade to the G700, which starts at $78 million.

Building a private airport necessitates FAA clearance as well as meeting the agency's environmental regulations. Local rules may also apply, although the Bastrop council and its economic development group informed that they were not aware of any plans at this time.
