News Synopsis

Recently, the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk

told that the Twitter users were being "manipulated" by the newsfeed algorithm of the microblogging platformIn a tweet on Saturday, the world’s richest man told that the default Twitter feed, which shows tweets based on popularity and a user's interests, needs to be replaced.

Musk wrote, "You are being manipulated by the algorithm in ways you don't realize,” and told his follower to "fix" their Twitter feed to show "Latest tweets" by tapping the star in the top right of the screen.

However, the founder and former CEO of the social media company, Dorsey

responded by disagreeing with Musk and said that the function was a way to update followers on trending news and was easily changed.

Dorsey, in his tweet, said, "it was designed simply to save you time when you are away from the app for a while. pull to refresh goes back to reverse chron [chronological] as well.” Further, Dorsey, while replying to another tweet, from another user who said the function was designed for manipulation, but that it could have consequences, wrote, "No it wasn't designed to manipulate. it was designed to catch you up and work off what you engage with. that can def have unintended consequences tho.”
