The period action epic, which released in theaters on April 28 in Tamil and dubbed versions in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam, continues to reign supreme at the box office.

Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's popular 1955 Tamil novels, the "Ponniyin Selvan" series follows the early days of Arulmozhivarman, played by Jayam Ravi, one of the most influential kings in the south who later became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I.
