News Synopsis

People all across the world use different languages to communicate, but have you ever heard about people communicating through whistles? One of the islands in Spain’s Canary Islands uses a new language to communicate with each other. People of the island use whistling as it is loud and clearly audible from far away.

It is believed that the island adapted this language after the Chronicles of Egypt. The language was given the name, ‘El Silbo Gomero’ in the 16th century when Spain conquered the island. The language allowed people to communicate over long distances as it was found more effective than screaming. It was more effective for navigation in the rocky terrains of the African Coast.
