News Synopsis

As the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 kicks off, Coca-Cola India and ICC are merging the nation's cricket enthusiasm with a commitment to sustainability.

During the opening ceremony of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, Coca-Cola India and ICC introduced National Flags crafted from post-consumer PET bottles. These PET bottles underwent recycling to produce yarn, subsequently used in creating the flags.

These innovative flags will be featured during the 'national anthem ceremony' preceding each match in the stadiums.

Marking a significant stride in environmental responsibility, Coca-Cola India has pioneered the creation of national flags for the ten participating nations and ten ICC unity flags using recycled PET bottles. This initiative establishes Coca-Cola India as the first company globally to introduce recycled PET national flags in cricket, setting a benchmark for future events.

Approximately 11,000 PET bottles were utilized to craft each national flag, with about 2,000 bottles contributing to each ICC Unity Flag. Manufactured by GoRevise by Ganesha Ecoverse Limited, specialists in recycled yarn and garments, a dedicated team of 100 workers invested 25 days and over 300 hours to bring these eco-friendly flags to life.

Thums Up and Limca Sportz serve as the official beverage and sports drink partners for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup India 2023. Coca-Cola India is set to undertake various activations during the World Cup, both online and offline, engaging fans and consumers to raise awareness about waste management.

Arnab Roy, Vice President, Marketing, Coca-Cola India & Southwest Asia, stated, "Coca-Cola has a mission to support sustainability efforts as an integral part of all sporting events. Aligned with this mission, we take pride in unveiling national flags made with recycled PET at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 today. With these recycled national and ICC Unity flags, we are dedicated to advancing the principles of a circular economy."

With a shared commitment to sustainability and recognizing the importance of cricket in India, Coca-Cola India and ICC aim to create a sustainable sporting experience during this world cup.
