News Synopsis

CNN+, US-based Media company CNN's brand-new streaming service is shutting down only a month after its launch. On Thursday, CNN chief executive Chris Licht informed that the streaming service would shut down by the end of this month. CNN+ was introduced when its parent company CNN was still part of AT&T. Earlier this month, CNN+ combined with Discovery in a new company, named Warner Bros. Discovery, under the Chief Executive Officer of discovery David Zaslav, who had his own plans for CNN and its Warner siblings. In the memo issued on Thursday, Licht told consumers wanted "simplicity and an all-in service" rather than "stand-alone offerings."

Earlier, Discovery had suggested that it wanted to merge the new company's separate streaming services, which include Discovery+ and HBO Max, into a single app. Licht further informed that some CNN+ content will end up on other company networks, and the employees of the streaming platform will receive opportunities to apply for jobs elsewhere inside Warner Bros. Discovery. Other than this, the head of CNN+, Andrew Morse, is also leaving the company. Licht further commented, "While today's decision is incredibly difficult, it is the right one for the long-term success of CNN. It allows us to refocus resources on the core products that drive our singular focus: further enhancing CNN's journalism and its reputation as a global news leader.”
