News Synopsis

China is likely to focus to install new renewable energy power plants in the Gobi Desert. Other than the Gobi, all other desert regions are also being considered for such power plants installations. According to the new policy, the logic behind this is that these regions speed up the construction of huge new wind and solar power bases and boost their transmission capabilities. Currently, China is the world’s largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Most of its power projects are coal-based. These initiatives are taken to meet their climate goals and reduce their carbon emissions. This will certainly prove to be an important step toward a clean and green future. The country aims to become carbon neutral by 2060 and to increase its solar and wind energy capacity to 1200 GW, almost double of its current production by the year 2030.
