China Imposes Lockdown in Shanghai

News Synopsis

Amid the rising cases of Covid-19, China has imposed a lockdown in its largest city, Shanghai. The local government announced that as citywide mass testing gets underway, Shanghai's Pudong financial district and nearby areas will be locked down from early Monday to Friday.  The vast downtown area west of the Huangpu River that divides the city will start its own five-day lockdown Friday in the second phase of Lockdown. During the Lockdown, items meant for deliveries will be left at checkpoints to ensure there is no contact with the outside world. Public Transport around the city will also remain suspended during this period. Only essential services and businesses will be allowed to operate. The city’s famous Shanghai Disney theme park has already been closed earlier. China is witnessing a massive resurgence of Covid Infections lately. More than 56,000 cases of covid infections have been reported in China this month. Other than China, European countries like Italy, Germany, etc, and Asian countries like Hong Kong, etc are also witnessing a rise in the number of Covid Cases.
