News Synopsis

Even though the summer movie season has ended for a few weeks, summer films are still showing at some theatres. Brad Pitt's action-thriller "Bullet Train," which was co-starring Sandra Bullock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Andrew Koji, Michael Shannon, Bad Bunny, and many others, and was directed by David Leitch ("Deadpool 2"), has surpassed the $100 million mark in the United States.

After opening with $30 million the first weekend in August, holding onto the top spot for a second weekend, and then continuing in the top three for six weeks, it took quite a long train ride to reach that milestone.

Pitt, who has repeatedly shown that he has lasting star power, was undoubtedly a major factor in this. Part of it was due to the lack of strong releases in mid-to-late August and early September.

Bullet Train only garnered a 54% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it received a 76% audience score and a "B+" CinemaScore. It joins 12 other films that have made over $100 million this year, including "The Lost City," Pitt's other film from 2022 that also stars Bullock and Channing Tatum.

"Bullet Train" is Brad Pitt's 14th film to gross over $100 million, for those keeping track. The other films included "Interview with the Vampire" (1994), in which he co-starred in with Tom Cruise; "Se7en" (1995); all three "Ocean's" films (2001, 2004, and 2007), which were all directed by Steven Soderbergh and co-starred George Clooney and Matt Damon; "Troy" (2004); "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" (2005); and their reunion for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008). Both of Pitt's Quentin Tarantino-directed films, "Inglourious Basterds" from 2009 and "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" from 2019, exceeded that threshold; the latter earned Pitt his first acting.
