News Synopsis

Hindi-dubbed South Indian films starring local stars make up a significant portion of the Hindi box office revenue. So far this year, only two South Indian films dubbed in Hindi have earned Rs 683 crore in domestic Hindi box office revenue. One is RRR starring Telugu stars N T Rama Rao Jr and Ram Charan, with Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt. The other is KGF2, starring top Kannada actor Yash.

Akshay Kumar's reputation for having hits was also undermined when Bachchhan Paandey flopped this year. The film was filmed on a budget of Rs. 105 crore and could not be recovered half of this amount on domestic box office.

Shibashish Sarkar, the producer of many blockbusters and former CEO of Reliance Entertainment, said India is following trends that began in Hollywood in 2010, with full-scale franchises such as Marvel and Spider-Man doing well on the big screen. However, the social drama attracted a limited audience, although it might have the potential to win Oscars.

But he warns that the production house that made these star-studded blockbusters already sells OTT and satellite rights at a high price, so they won't lose money.
