News Synopsis

Most cities around the world are dealing with a variety of issues, such as the loss of green space, the degradation of water bodies, a lack of proper sanitation, waste mismanagement, collapsing infrastructure, and traffic congestion. Cities' increased carbon footprints make them a significant contributor to global climate change. Rapid urbanisation has created an ecological imbalance due to overuse of natural resources, jeopardising city resilience, particularly in Asia and the Pacific region. Creating a balance between economic growth and sustainability is difficult for cities, but it is an urgent need.

The land is still one of the most valuable resources in cities, so sustainable real estate plays a huge role in this regard. On a positive note, the city of Bengaluru in India has been ranked 14th out of 20 cities in the Asia Pacific region for sustainable commercial real estate development by global consultants Knight Frank development, according to the PTI. Other Indian cities on the top-20 list besides the garden city include Delhi (17), Hyderabad (18), and Mumbai (20).

Bengaluru has a higher social sustainability index, according to the study, because it provides its residents with greater equity in terms of income and demographics, health care, education, and necessities (energy, water, and sanitization).
