News Synopsis

The DAO fighting for the freedom of Julian Assange has won a bid for an NFT worth $53 million. The NFT is designed by WikiLeaks founder in collaboration with a prominent digital artist, Pak. It will go to the legal defence fund of Julian Assange.

It is one of the NFTs from Pak’s collection called Censored. The non-fungible token is dubbed “Clock”, a timer that counts the number of days Assange has spent in prison. More than 10,000 contributors totalled 17,422 ether for the purchase of this NFT.

Since the DAO won the bid, its contributors will get the governance token in amounts that are proportional to their contributors. According to the data of CoinMarketCap, one token is trading at around $0.002795 at present.

AssangeDAO was formed on December 10, after a London Court ruled that WikiLeaks founder can be extradited to the USA, where he has 18 charges. The London High Court also said in January that Julian Assange can appeal the December extradition ruling and bring his case to the UK Supreme Court.

Assange has been in prison in the United Kingdom since 2019 after the Ecuadorian embassy in London extradited his asylum status. The United States then demanded his surrender. This process lasted for over two years.
