India added another shooting medal to its Asian Games campaign after Neeru Dhanda, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer secured silver in the women’s trap team event on Tuesday.

The Indian trio finished second at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, helping India’s shooting medal tally rise to 13. Their combined score of 328 placed them ahead of Kuwait, while China claimed the gold medal.

China Takes Gold in Women’s Trap Team Event

India recorded a combined score of 328 points after completing the 125-shot qualification round. The performance was enough to secure the silver medal in the team competition.

China dominated the event with an aggregate score of 346, finishing 18 points ahead of India. Kuwait secured the bronze medal with a total of 325.

The result added another medal to India’s strong showing in shooting at the ongoing Asian Games.

Neeru Dhanda Qualifies for Individual Final

Alongside the team silver, Neeru Dhanda produced an impressive individual performance. She finished joint-top in the qualification standings after registering 118 points.

Her score earned her a place in the individual final, giving India another opportunity to compete for a medal in the women’s trap event.

However, fellow Indian shooters Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer could not make the individual final. Aashima scored 106 points to finish 16th, while Manisha registered 104 points and ended the qualification round in 23rd position.

India’s participation in trap shooting also continued in the men’s competition. Kynan Chenai, Shapath Bharadwaj and Azhar Rizvi are representing the country in the men’s trap qualification.

Esha narrowly missed out on the gold after a closely fought contest against China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan. Both shooters finished the 50-shot competition with 38 hits, matching the Asian Games record and forcing a shoot-off to determine the winner.

Dramatic Shoot-Off Decides Gold

The first shoot-off also ended level, with both Esha and Xiao hitting four of their five targets. The gold medal was ultimately decided in the second shoot-off.

Xiao prevailed 3-2, securing the gold medal, while Esha had to settle for silver.

Despite missing out on the top position, Esha’s performance gave India another medal in shooting and continued her record of success at the continental Games.

Esha Singh Wins Second Consecutive Asian Games Medal

The silver medal was Esha Singh’s second consecutive Asian Games medal in the women’s 25m pistol event.

She had previously won silver in the individual event at Hangzhou 2023. At those Games, Esha was also part of the Indian team that won gold in the women’s 25m pistol team competition alongside Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan.
