News Synopsis

Argentina has confirmed the first case of monkeypox in a man who came from Spain, the Ministry of Health said. "The patient is in good condition, receiving symptomatic treatment, his close contact is under clinical and epidemiological control, and so far he has no symptoms," the reports said.

The ministry said that the test result from the sample taken from the first high-probability case is positive, which confirms infection with poxviruses belonging to the Eurasian-African group of the Orthopox genus.

Later, genomic sequencing revealed a very high proportion of homology with the West African group, as seen in new cases around the world, it added. The Ministry of Health urged people with symptoms to wear face masks, reduce social distance and consult the health system immediately.
