News Synopsis

Apple has announced new AirTag safety features after getting a number of complaints about tracking devices that were used to stalk them. The company also said that it will release another update later this year to alert people about unwanted tracking sooner. It will also make it easier to find AirTags tracking them without their knowledge.

In its upcoming updates, AirTag users will see a message that will clearly state that using AirTag to track people without their consent is a crime in many regions around the world, that AirTag is designed to be detected by victims, and that law enforcement can request identifying information about the owner of the AirTag.

The company will also refine its “Unknown Accessory Detected” alert, which will notify users when any third party Find My Network is detected nearby. Apple also plans to roll out other updates designed to boost AirTag security.

Another update, Precision Finding will help to detect unwanted tracking and locate unknown AirTags for their removal. It will also add AirTags’ sound to play louder tones to easily find the unknown tracking devices.
