Apple to Shift iPad Production from China to Vietnam

After months of strict COVID lockdowns in China that caused supply chain disruptions, Apple is now shifting some of its iPad production from China to Vietnam. To protect against future shortages and supply shortages, Apple has asked several component suppliers to build inventories, according to sources quoted by Asia Nikkei.

A plan to leave China and move to Vietnam was previously considered, but Apple postponed the plan due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Vietnam a few months later. Apple's decision to withdraw from China reflects the company's ongoing efforts to diversify its supply chain. It also emphasizes the growing importance of Vietnam to the company.

In particular, Apple is calling on suppliers outside the affected regions to help establish component supplies over the coming months to ensure supply continuity over the next few months. Sources say this request applies to all Apple product lines, iPhones, iPads, AirPods, and MacBooks.
