News Synopsis

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup behind the Claude AI models, has officially inaugurated its first Indian office in Bengaluru. The announcement was made on the opening day of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, signaling the company’s strategic focus on one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets.

The company highlighted that India is now its second-largest user base globally. Notably, this marks only Anthropic’s second base in the Asia-Pacific region, after its Tokyo office in Japan.

Anthropic Opens Office in Bengaluru

Anthropic shared the development via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle and detailed its expansion plans in a blog post.

The company stated:

“Today, as we officially open our Bengaluru office, we're announcing partnerships across enterprise, education, and agriculture that deepen our commitment to India across a range of sectors.”

The new office is located at Embassy Golf Links Business Park in Bengaluru, a major technology and startup hub in India.

Strategic Partnerships Across Key Sectors

The Bengaluru office will oversee several strategic partnerships that Anthropic has initiated in India.

AI for Agriculture and Law

Anthropic is collaborating with:

  • Karya

  • Collective Intelligence Project

The partnership focuses on building AI evaluation systems to test model performance on locally relevant tasks in agriculture and law.

The initiative also includes participation from domain experts at:

  • Digital Green

  • Adalat AI

According to the company, this work will help improve future AI models for Indic language speakers and better adapt Claude to India-specific use cases.

India Revenue Doubles Since October 2025

Anthropic revealed that its run-rate revenue in India has doubled since October 2025, when it first announced expansion plans in the country.

To better serve its growing enterprise and startup customer base, the company is offering applied AI expertise that enables organisations to design, build, and scale personalised Claude-powered solutions.

Notable Indian Customers

Some of Anthropic’s key customers in India include:

  • Air India

  • Cognizant

  • Razorpay

  • Enterpret

  • Emergent AI

These partnerships reflect the increasing adoption of generative AI across aviation, IT services, fintech, and enterprise software sectors in India.

Leadership Perspective on India’s AI Potential

Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India at Anthropic, said:

“India represents one of the world's most promising opportunities to bring the benefits of responsible AI to vastly more people and enterprises. Already, it's home to extraordinary technical talent, digital infrastructure at scale, and a proven track record of using technology to improve people's lives. That's exactly the foundation you need to make sure this technology reaches the people who can benefit from it most,”

Her remarks underline Anthropic’s long-term strategy of building responsible and scalable AI solutions in collaboration with India’s strong technology ecosystem.

Hiring and Local Talent Expansion

Anthropic has also begun hiring local talent across multiple roles, including engineering, research, partnerships, and enterprise support functions. Bengaluru, often referred to as India’s Silicon Valley, provides access to a large pool of AI engineers, developers, and startup professionals.

The move aligns with a broader global trend where leading AI companies are expanding into high-growth markets to tap local talent, build regional AI capabilities, and customise models for language and regulatory needs.

India’s Growing AI Ecosystem

India has rapidly emerged as a global AI innovation hub, supported by:

  • A vast developer ecosystem

  • Strong digital public infrastructure

  • Expanding AI startup ecosystem

  • Government-backed AI initiatives

Anthropic’s decision to deepen its presence in India reflects the country’s growing influence in shaping the future of responsible artificial intelligence.
