News Synopsis

Even though markets have fallen by double digits in the first six months of 2022, Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani's stars continue to shine. During the same time period, most of the old money business houses such as Tatas, Birlas, Mahindras, and others saw an even bigger drop.

So far this year, the benchmark Nifty 50 and Sensex have fallen more than 11%. While this appears to be a significant drop, many of their global counterparts have fared worse.
More specifically, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance has barely managed to stay in the black, with a meagre 2 percent increase - meagre in comparison to Gautam Adani's seven publicly traded companies, which grew 38 percent during the same period.

Wipro's precipitous decline this year is a result of the Indian IT sector facing headwinds as a result of recessionary concerns in the West, its primary clientele. While its competitors TCS and Infosys have also declined this year, they have fared far better than Wipro.
The Tata group of companies, with a combined market cap of nearly 20 lakh crore, remains the most valuable in the country, while Mukesh Ambani's Reliance is a close second at nearly 18 lakh crore.
