Amazon Launches Alexa+ on Web: New AI Assistant Takes on ChatGPT & Gemini
News Synopsis
Amazon has officially taken its AI-powered Alexa experience beyond hardware. The company has rolled out Alexa+ on the web, allowing users to access the assistant directly through Alexa.com. Until now, the upgraded version of Alexa was available only on Echo smart speakers, Fire TV devices, and the redesigned Alexa mobile app.
With the web rollout, Amazon is aiming to position Alexa+ as a direct competitor to leading AI chatbots such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini, while also making the assistant easier to use across more devices and platforms.
Alexa+ Comes to the Web
In a newsroom announcement, Amazon confirmed the launch of Alexa.com — the new dedicated home for its conversational AI assistant. The website functions much like other web-based AI chat platforms, enabling users to interact with Alexa+ through a browser without needing a compatible device nearby.
The company explained the expansion by saying, “To truly serve as a personal assistant, Alexa+ needs to be available wherever they are—at home, on their phone, and now on the web.”
At present, access remains limited. The web version is available only to early access users in the United States who either own a compatible Echo or Fire TV device or have an active Amazon Prime subscription.
What Users Can Do With Alexa+ on the Web
Eligible users can log in to the website for a wide range of everyday tasks. They can ask questions, research complex topics, write content, plan trips, and even get help with homework. Thanks to built-in memory and contextual awareness, Alexa+ also supports continuity across devices — meaning conversations started on Echo or the Alexa app can continue seamlessly on the web.
The assistant also offers “agent-like” abilities. Users can update calendar schedules, make reservations, and control various smart devices linked to their homes. Because Alexa+ stores relevant details from previous chats, it can personalize suggestions and provide reminders when needed.
Smarter Assistance for Daily Life
Amazon highlighted practical scenarios where Alexa+ can prove especially useful. For example, it can plan weekly meal recipes while honoring dietary preferences and, if ingredients are missing, automatically add items to Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods carts.
For households with smart devices, the web version offers added convenience. Users can check who is at their front door, turn lights on or off, adjust thermostats, and monitor security cameras — even when they are away from home.
With multimodal support, Alexa+ accepts uploads such as images, emails, and documents. It can extract relevant data, set reminders, add events to calendars, or simply store important information for future prompts.
