News Synopsis

The e-commerce platforms Amazon and Flipkart have shown robust growth in 2021 even after facing the second wave of the pandemic. The covid-19 pandemic has led to a surge in the number of online buyers at a higher frequency as compared to last year. This has accelerated the growth of e-commerce platforms.

Amazon Seller Service Pvt Ltd saw a 49% rise in revenue from operations at Rs 16,379 crore in 2021, higher than that of the previous year which amounted to Rs 10,847.6 crore. Net loss of the company fell down to 19% to Rs 4,748 crore with total expenses standing at Rs 21,127 crore.

Revenue from operations of Amazon Wholesale in India includes revenue coming from selling goods and services. Amazon is scaling down its operations due to the new rules on foreign direct investment for e-commerce companies with ownership from foreign firms.
