News Synopsis

Akasa Air backed by stock market maverick Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, revealed a photo of its first plane on Monday. It attached a photo of the aircraft to a Twitter post with the caption: "I can't stay calm! Hello, QP-pie!" Another tweet stated, "Coming Soon to Your Sky."

The low-cost carrier intends to begin commercial flights in the summer of 2022, using its new fleet of 737s to meet rising demand in India. According to reports, Akasa Air received a no-objection certificate from the Civil Aviation Ministry in October in order to begin commercial flights.

The company has ordered 72 Boeing 737 Max aircraft and CFM LEAP-1B engines for 2021. CFM delivered its first CFM56 engines in the early 1990s, and nearly 600 engines are currently in use by Indian subcontinent airlines. The purchase agreement was worth nearly $4.5 billion, including spare engines and a long-term services agreement.

Initially, Akasa Air will operate flights from metropolitan cities to tier II and tier III cities apart from metros to metros. According to the CEO, they are planning to commence overseas flights in the second half of  2023 once it adds 20 airplanes to its fleet.
