Airtel Commissions 21 MW Solar Plant in Maharashtra

News Synopsis

Bharti Airtel has announced that it is commissioning a 21 MW power plant in Bhuldana, Maharashtra. The announcement comes out as a part of the company’s commitment to reduce carbon footprint and contribute to the global efforts to curb the effects of climate change.

The company is partnering up with Avaada for the set-up of this captive unit. This solar power unit will supply clean energy to Nxtra by Airtel’s edge and large data centres along with switching centres in the state. A reduction of 25,517 tonnes of carbon emission is expected to take place annually just with this power unit. 

The CEO of Nxtra by Airtel, Rajesh Tapadia has called it a significant step for the company to source more than 50% of its energy requirements for data centres via renewable energy sources this year.

This is not the first solar plan of Nxtra. It has already commissioned two captive solar power units of 14 MW in Uttar Pradesh, With 120 edge data centres and 11 large data centres, it has the largest data centre network in India.
