Agreement Between JioMart And Meta, Shopping Will Be Done Through WhatsApp

Facebook and WhatsApp-owned Meta and Jio platforms on Monday launched a first-of-its-kind end-to-end shopping experience. Customers in India will now be able to shop from JioMart through the WhatsApp app only. They can browse JioMart's grocery catalog within the app, add items to the cart, and pay to complete the purchase from within the app. Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani announced at the 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) that Jio is also going to start 5G services in India by October. According to a press statement from Jio, JioMart will now be accessible on WhatsApp and through this, customers will be able to make purchases from within WhatsApp itself. Customers will only have to send a 'Hi' message to JioMart number (+917977079770) on the WhatsApp app and after that, they will have the complete catalog of goods. The launch is part of the strategic partnership between Meta and Jio Platforms, which was announced in 2020. The company informed that JioMart's experience on WhatsApp will "revolutionize the way millions of businesses across the country engage with their consumers while bringing unparalleled simplicity and convenience to people's shopping experience."

The $221 billion Indian conglomerate's effort to compete with Flipkart and Amazon in India is JioMart. The largest retail chain in the nation is Ambani's Reliance Retail, but it currently offers limited e-commerce solutions.

Years ago, Ambani, a fan of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referred to Mahatma Gandhi in a speech, saying that, like Gandhi, who spearheaded a struggle against political colonialism in India,  “we have to collectively launch a new movement against data colonization. For India to succeed in this data-driven revolution, we will have to migrate the control and ownership of Indian data back to India — in other words, Indian wealth back to every Indian.”

Zuckerberg, according to Ambani, shares his objective of bringing more people and businesses online and providing  “truly innovative solutions that will add convenience to the daily lives of every Indian.”
