News Synopsis

Adani Power, a subsidiary of Adani Group, will supply power to Bangladesh by December 16, 2022, from its upcoming power project in Jharkhand. After meeting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the head of the Adani Group shared the information related to it on the social media platform Twitter. After meeting the Bangladesh Prime Minister, the world's third richest industrialist, Gautam Adani, has told that the Adani Group will start exporting electricity generated from a coal-fired plant in India to Bangladesh this year.

A plan has been prepared for this. Gautam Adani said that the 1600 MW Godda Power Project in Godda, Jharkhand, and the specially designed transmission line for Bangladesh are being prepared to start this year by Bangladesh's Vijay Diwas (16 December 2022). It is worth noting that Gautam Adani is the third richest person in the world as well as the richest billionaire in Asia. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his net worth is around $141 billion. Shares of Adani Group company Adani Power hit the upper circuit on Tuesday amid reports of energy exports to Bangladesh. The company's shares were seen trading at Rs 410 level with a strength of 5 per cent. At the same time, it is worth noting that the market capitalization of the company is about Rs 1,58,057.36 crore.

The project is significant because India's 'Neighborhood First' policy has identified Bangladesh as an important partner. The government of Narendra Modi has promised to assist neighboring countries with trade and commerce, power and energy, transportation and connectivity, science and technology, defense, rivers, and maritime affairs.
