News Synopsis

Aluminium Association of India (AAI) has sent a letter to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) about the alarming situation of the highly energy-intensive aluminium industry due to a serious coal shortage.

To avoid the closure of the aluminium industry and save countless livelihoods and SMEs, AAI tells the PMO  asked for intervention to normalize the volatile situation with the high power-intensive aluminium industry CPP and the immediate resumption of coal and computing supplies to at least 25-30 coal rakes per day to provide to economically viable and sustainable industrial enterprises.

AAI asked for immediate support for the resumption of uninterrupted coal supplies and rakes for Aluminium industry Captive Power Plants (CPPs), which is having alarmingly depleted coal stocks of 3-4 days as compared to the prescribed level of 15 days.

Although CIL's overall coal supply is currently improving, still shipments from major CIL affiliates such as MCL and SECL are insufficient to meet the needs of the non-power sector, CPP and industry needs for Continuous and sustainable operation.
