 To formalize the economic relief package, Sri Lankan FM will visit India

India’s neighbor Sri Lanka is going through a serious economic crisis. It is struggling with sky-high inflation along with the forex crisis. On Tuesday Sri Lanka foreign minister, G L Peiris said that the country’s Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa will be visiting India to formalize the economic relief package offered by India. Amid the financial crisis, the Indian Government announced that it will be providing a loan of $900 million to help its neighbor, in January. During his earlier visit to INDIA in December 2021, The finance minister briefed the Indian government about the economic condition of their country. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also held a virtual meeting with Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa on January 15 and discussed projects and investment plans by India that would help the economy of Sri Lanka. Foreign Minister Peiris said: “The close integration of our economy with India would be very beneficial, one-third of our tourist arrivals are from India”.
