News Synopsis

Zomato, a leading online food delivery platform in India, has joined hands with electric mobility startup Zypp Electric to deploy one lakh electric scooters for last-mile delivery by 2024. The collaboration aims to provide sustainable and environment-friendly last-mile delivery options to customers, reduce carbon emissions, and create exciting earning opportunities for gig workers. As part of the tie-up, Zypp will provide delivery partners to Zomato for last-mile deliveries in various cities across India.

Zypp Electric Aims to Reduce Carbon Emissions by 35 Million Kg

Zypp Electric currently has over 13,000 of its electric vehicles running on Indian roads as part of its sustainable transportation plan. The company aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions by up to 35 million kg by deploying one lakh electric scooters in collaboration with Zomato for last-mile delivery by 2024. The target is to achieve more than one crore green deliveries through EVs by 2024.

Zomato's Commitment to EV100 Initiative

Zomato's association with Zypp Electric is part of its larger plan to go completely electric by 2030 as part of its commitment to "The Climate Group's EV100" initiative. The initiative aims to bring together companies committed to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and making electric transport the new normal by 2030.

Benefits of Collaborating with Zypp Electric

According to Tushar Mehta, co-founder and COO of Zypp Electric, "food delivery is all on 2-wheelers and is mostly running on petrol and at the same time wanting to shift to EVs to save costs. By leveraging our EV fleet management technology and innovative partner solutions, we aim to create a more efficient, sustainable, and customer-centric delivery experience."

"This association will enable us to significantly reduce carbon emissions and bring more sustainable last-mile delivery options to our customers. We look forward to working together to create more efficient and environmentally friendly deliveries,"  said Mohit Sardana, COO for food delivery at Zomato.

Zypp Electric's Growth and Expansion Plans

Zypp Electric is looking to drive growth and expansion into multiple markets. The e-mobility platform currently caters to around 50 clients, including aggregators and e-commerce platforms. "Our approach will empower gig workers and provide them with exciting earning opportunities," said Tushar Mehta.

In conclusion, Zomato's collaboration with Zypp Electric is a significant step towards sustainable and environment-friendly last-mile delivery options in India. The deployment of one lakh electric scooters by 2024 will not only reduce carbon emissions but also create exciting earning opportunities for gig workers. The initiative aligns with Zomato's commitment to the EV100 initiative and its larger plan to go completely electric by 2030.
