News Synopsis

According to a new report, global app installs in the first quarter of 2022 totaled nearly 37 billion across the App Store and Google Play store.

According to Sensor Tower, TikTok became the fifth app to cross 3.5 million downloads. The report stated that in the first quarter of 2022, apps in the Games and Finance categories showed signs of recovery on App Store and Google Play.

Instagram install came down by 7% quarter over quarter, however, it was still the second-best total since at least 2014 followed by Facebook and WhatsApp. Telegram is at the fifth position in overall downloads with the traction of more than 100 million downloads worldwide.

The world's top three publishers in the last quarter were Meta, Google, and ByteDance. All of these accounted for the majority of downloads from non-gaming apps in their respective portfolios. The rest of the top 10 were mostly game publishers. The quarterly top publisher, Meta, has over 600 million downloads, just ahead of Google in second place.

Global app adoption and consumer spending on App Store and Google Play for in-app purchases, premium apps, and subscriptions were relatively flat in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous year, according to a recent report.
