According to the company's monthly disclosure report released on Wednesday, the messaging platform WhatsApp suspended more than 16 lakh accounts of Indian users in April.

According to a Meta-owned messaging app, a total of 122 accounts have been suspended due to user complaints, and 16.66 lakh accounts have been suspended to prevent malicious activity on the platform.

According to the company, even if an account has accumulated negative feedback when another user submits a report to suspend an account. The report also states that the app's system evaluates the account and takes appropriate action after negative feedback is reported.

The instant mobile messaging company uses machine learning and other analytical tools to identify "ambitious abusers" and ban them from the platform. The company suspended approximately 18 lakh accounts in March and 14.26 lakh accounts in February. In January, Indian accounts totaling Rs 18.58 lakh were blocked.

The new IT rules, which came into force last year, require large digital platforms (more than 50,000 users) to publish monthly compliance reports detailing complaints received and actions taken. WhatsApp previously emphasized that as an end-to-end encryption platform, there is no insight into the content of the message.
