WhatsApp adopts 500 Villages to Boost its UPI User Base

WhatsApp has announced the adoption of 500 villages in Maharashtra and Karnataka, which aims at increasing the UPI user base. The announcement was made at Meta’s annual event, Fuel For India 2021. 

The programme called, ‘Digital Payments Utsav’, started in Kyathanahalli village in Mandya district of Karnataka. Under this programme, the villagers were introduced to several aspects of digital payments and as a result, villagers started adopting payments on WhatsApp as their new mode of payment. The company is planning to keep on making significant investments in Payments of WhatsApp for the future, to increase the growth of Payment of WhatsApp around India.

Head of WhatsApp India has said that the ease of WhatsApp’s payment method will lead to UPI adoption among Indian users. He also said that they will keep on bringing such programmes to educate the users about digital payment platforms and will lead to a transition from cash-only financial life.
