News Synopsis

The World Economic Forum on Monday launched the Indian CEO Alliance to promote India's climate and decarbonization efforts. This will further help to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious five-part "Panchamrit" pledge.

The WEF said in a statement, “The World Economic Forum launched the India chapter of the Alliance of CEO Climate Action Leaders to supercharge India’s climate action and decarbonization efforts.”

As part of the World Economic Forum's Climate Action Platform, the Alliance has a vision for India's low-carbon transition to 2070, outlined in its final white paper, Mission 2070: A Green New Deal for Net Zero India.

A collaboration between management consultant Kearney and the Indian Think-tank Observer Research Foundation, the Alliance is a high-level platform to support business leaders in planning and implementing plans and programs to achieve net-zero's economic growth.

The just transition creates more than $10 trillion in business opportunities annually and could create 395 million jobs worldwide by 2030. India alone has the potential to create more than 50 million net new jobs and generate more than $15 trillion in economic value.

For over 50 years, the World Economic Forum has been an international organization for public-private cooperation. The Annual Meeting is a central place for leaders to tackle global challenges and accelerate the partnerships needed to shape a more sustainable and inclusive future.
