News Synopsis

Vinay Dubey, founder and CEO of the newly launched Akasa Air, which entered the aviation sector this month, said on Wednesday that the airline is financially in a strong position to place orders for new aircraft in the next 18 months, The orders that will be placed will be much bigger than before.

It is worth noting that the family of Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, who passed away on Sunday morning, owns 45 percent stake in Akasa Air. On November 26 last year, Akasa Air had entered into a deal with aircraft manufacturer Boeing for the purchase of 72 MAX aircraft. Dubey has further said in his statement that, thanks to Mr. Jhunjhunwala, we will always be grateful to him for his contribution.

According to Dubey, Akasa Air is a well-capitalized airline with the financial means to add 72 aircraft to its fleet in the next five years. The airline has so far received deliveries of three aircraft as per the deal with Boeing. Dubey said, "We will continue to grow our fleet by adding a new aircraft every two weeks. These are gratifying moments in our journey. We on behalf of Akasa Air mourn the passing away of Rakesh Jhunjhunwala." The CEO said it was a deep personal loss for those at Akasa who knew him personally and were in contact with him.
