News Synopsis

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the crowd at the Grammy Awards with an emotional message asking for support for his country.

The message was prerecorded and was played at the 64th Grammy awards. The video message was played before John Legend’s performance on stage on his new song titles. “Free,” in tribute to Ukraine. The Ukrainian singer Mika Newtown and poet Lyuba Yakimchuk also joined him on stage.

On the biggest night of music, Zelensky appealed to the industry to explain the decimation of cities in the country and the loss of children's lives. He said more than 400 children were injured and 153 children died.

“We are fighting Russia, which brings horrible silence with its bombs,” Mr Zelensky said, encouraging listeners, “Fill the silence with your music! Fill it today. To tell our story.” Zelensky, a pre-war actor, was also asked to address the audience at the Oscar Awards last week, but he didn't appear on the show.
