Vodafone-Idea Loses Over 1 Million Users in November; Jio, Airtel and BSNL Gain Subscribers — TRAI Report

TRAI has released the subscriber data for November, bringing bad news for Vodafone-Idea. Despite rolling out 5G services in several cities, the company lost more than 1 million users, while Jio, Airtel and BSNL continued to strengthen their subscriber bases.

Vodafone-Idea Faces Sharp Subscriber Decline in November, While Rivals Gain

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published the latest subscriber report for November, and it has turned out to be a major setback for Vodafone-Idea.
According to the data, the third-largest telecom operator in the country saw a steep drop of over 1 million users. Even after launching its 5G services in multiple cities, the company continues to struggle with declining subscribers.

TRAI Data Highlights

As per TRAI’s November subscriber data, Vodafone-Idea lost 10,11,134 users, resulting in a 0.50% decline in market share. The company’s total market share has now slipped to 17.01%.

Meanwhile, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and BSNL benefited from this shift, recording subscriber gains.
However, state-owned MTNL also witnessed a fall, losing 7,530 users, leaving its market share at just 0.02%.

How Did Jio, Airtel and BSNL Perform?

Jio Continues to Lead

Reliance Jio once again dominated the market, adding 13,88,929 (1.38 million) new customers.
With a 0.46% increase in subscriber base, Jio’s total market share has now risen to 41.41%.

Airtel Shows Strong Growth

Airtel also registered strong gains, adding 12,15,405 (1.21 million) new users in November.
Its market share grew by 0.31%, climbing to 33.64%.

BSNL Continues Its Comeback

State-run BSNL continued its positive trend after the rollout of 4G services.
The operator added 4,21,514 new subscribers, pushing its market share up by 0.29% to 7.92%.

Overall, the total number of wireless (mobile) users in India also recorded a rise.

Mobile Subscriber Base Rises Again

In November, India’s total mobile subscriber count increased to 1173.88 million (117.38 crore).
In October, the figure stood at 1171.87 million (117.18 crore) — marking a 0.17% overall growth.

Rise in Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) Users

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) subscribers also reported growth of 5.06%, with 5,01,369 new users added in November.

• Airtel recorded the highest monthly growth at 9.98%, adding 2,51,095 FWA users.

• Jio posted 3.38% growth, adding 2,50,274 FWA users during the same period.
