Vinod Rai will be appointed as Kalyan Jewellers’ Chairman

On March 28th, the Board of Kalyan Jewellers approved the appointment of Vinod Rai as the Chairman and Independent Non-executive Director on the Board of the Company. This appointment will be subject to obtaining requisite regulatory and shareholders’ approvals. Vinod Rai has earlier served as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He has also been the former Chair of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors. Other than this, Mr. Rai has also held various positions within the Indian government as well as in state governments in the past. After being approved by the Kalyan Jewellers’ Board for the appointment as its chairman, he said: “It is a privilege for me to be associated with Kalyan Jewellers, a company which has built the highest levels of trust amongst its stakeholders, conducts its business in an ethical and transparent manner and upholds the standards of good corporate governance. I eagerly look forward to my association with Kalyan." Rai has been awarded the third-highest civilian award in India- Padma Bhushan. Vinod Rai has completed his Masters in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. He has another Masters degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University, USA. TS Kalyanaraman will continue to provide his contribution as Managing Director on the Company’s board.
