News Synopsis

Recently, it has been reported that the Edtech unicorn Vedantu

has laid off around 200 contractual as well as full-time employees. A spokesperson of the Edtech startup informed that around nearly 120 employees out of 200 employees are contractual staff and the remaining ones are full-time employees. Nearly all of the laid employees were working as assistant teachers in Vedantu.

The spokesperson of Vedantu stated, “We have over 6,000 employees, out of which roughly 120 contractors and 80 full-time or 3.5% of the total strength are academics or assistant teachers, which were being re-evaluated. We have an annual contract with them, and at the beginning of every academic year, we follow a process of load rebalancing where we rejig pertaining to these roles, based on our growth expectations.”

Lately, the Edtech startup has been struggling a bit as offline learning centers resume operations. In a bid to compete against them, Vedantu is reducing the cost of its courses. Other than this, Vedantu has been using Artificial Intelligence, voice synthesis, and content development to decrease the prices of its courses. The startup further told that It is also leveraging technology to bring down overall costs.
