News Synopsis

For Indians, the number of interviews for US student visas will rise by 30%. According to the US Consul General in Mumbai, the number of visa interviews scheduled for Indian students would rise by 30% this summer. On Tuesday, Mike Hankey said this.

According to him, almost 1.25 lakh Indian students' visa applications were processed by US consulates.

Hankey spoke with representatives from various industries during his stay in Aurangabad. Additionally, he went to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and spoke with students there.

"Last year, we sent more than 1.25 lakh Indian students to the US, setting a new record for Indian students going to the US in a year and establishing India as the leading country of sending students. This year we are trying to increase that number (of students) further,"  he told PTI.

"Our goal is to expand the number of interview appointments we offer for students by 30 percent this summer. We hope to welcome more Indian students to the USA,"  Hankey continued.

The American representative encouraged the youngsters he spoke with to explore websites and pick a curriculum that was suitable for them.

Hankey met with industrialist and conservationist Mukund Bhogale, according to a tweet from the US Consulate in Mumbai, to hear about the Marathwada region's historical history, efforts to preserve its heritage, and potential areas for cooperation with the city's business community.

Another announcement was made recently by the US Department of State.

Thousands of students are expected to be affected by the US Department of State's decision to raise non-immigrant visa fees, since they would now have to pay 185 dollars instead of 160 dollars starting on May 30, 2023.

According to a statement from the US State Department, the cost of visitor visas for business or tourism (B1/B2), as well as other non-petition based NIVs such student and exchange visitor visas, would rise from $160 to $185 as of May 30, 2023.
