Toyota Extends Production Stoppages in Japan

News Synopsis

Toyota has expanded its production stoppages in some of the factories in Japan due to supply chain issues. The company’s factories in South East Asia have been facing disruption because of the pandemic. The company said that the production stoppages are getting extended due to the low supplies in South East Asia due to the tight logistics situations in Japan.

The company is aiming to stick to its annual production target for this year and is targeting at producing 9 million units by the end of this year on March 31. Many automobiles including General Motors, Ford, Nissan, Daimler, BMW, and Renault have also cut their production due to the global chip shortage. The impact of Japan’s motor industry can also be seen in its economy. 

The country showed the slowest growth in eight months which was lower than what was forecasted. Shipments of the car went down by 37% as compared to last year. According to the data of the country's Ministry of Finance, the export to its two largest partners China and USA also came down to half.
