News Synopsis

Tim Berners-Lee’s startup, Inrupt, has raised $30 million in its Series A financing round. Forte Ventures is leading the new round and both parties have decided not to disclose the details of the deal. All the existing investors along with new investors participated in the round. The company has previously been in the news for raising between $30 million to $50 million.

Inrupt is a service provider that provides POD (Personal Online Datastores), which stores the data of the user. These are interoperable and decentralized applications and can be decoupled according to the preferences of the user. Hunter Hartwell, principal at Forte Venture said that it gives users control over their data, and called it a seamless transition into the new internet era.

The company serves governments and enterprises and has signed a contract with the governments of Sweden, Argentina, and Basque. It is planning to use the funds to expand its global reach and a solid deployment in the government and commercial sectors.
